Service Description

This 130-mile route crosses the Gassabias Portage as a bridge between the St. Croix River watershed and the Penobscot River watershed. Not for the “light-hearted” adventurer, this native American canoe route begins in Vanceboro, Maine on the popular St. Croix River. Most finish a St. Croix River trip at Kellyland where the EMCT continues westward into the amazing Grand Falls flowage, and across Big Lake to the first of several portages. The south end of fourth Machias Lake presents the 3-mile Gassabius Portage through old-growth forest, bogs, muck, and more. This is a crux and the last major portage of the trip. After the portaging is done its Nicatous Lake, and a class I-II whitewater section down Nicatous Stream to the Passadumkeag River, Soponic pond, and finally the mighty Penobscot River where we end our trip in the town of Passadukeag. Cancellation Policy

A cancelation 30 days (1 month ) prior to a trip date will be refunded 100% - minus credit card handling fees. If a cancellation is made less than 30 days prior to the date of the booked trip, someone no shows, or an incomplete trip - all finances are non-refundable and/or non-transferable. If for any reason participants are not satisfied you are free to leave, but you shall not receive a return of fees for the trip or experience. This policy reflect the fact that our trips are limited to small groups, we do not overbook, and a cancelled space is very difficult to fill last minute, and significant cost is incurred in the planning and preparing for our trips. In the event of an emergency or catastrophe beyond the control of your guide that would require ending a trip early, Maine Guide Company may offer to reschedule your trip at a reduced rate, at our discretion. If for any reason a trip be cancel, the client will have a choice of 100% refund or roll over fees to an alternate trip date. This will be issued as a trip credit redeemable for up to one year after the original missed trip date. .
