 We Are Committed

This means that we strive to meet our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In addition to natural resources, we are focused on social and economic resource. Sustainability is not just environmental- ism, found in most definitions of sustainability. We also find concerns for social equity and economic development. We express and promote awareness for sustainability through adventure, education, and our permaculture design initiative.

Sustainability Education

Maine Guide Company views sustainability education as a way to develop the know-how, skills, ethics, values, and views needed for people to act and contribute to sustainable patterns of living. We aim to empower all individuals and communities to reflect on new ways of interpretation and engagement with the world. We believe that sustainability education is future-oriented, and focused on protecting the environments where we thrive. We are creating a more ecological and socially just world via informed action. Informed action supports much greater sustainable patterns for a living, which requires consideration of environmental, social, cultural, and economic systems along with their interdependence.

Adventure Education

Maine Guide Company facilitates adventure education as a tool in guiding a process of learning through adventure-based experiences including but not limited to various activities such as canoeing, backpacking, outdoor sports, excursions, explorations, and even indoor activities and skills courses.

We believe that adventure learning is an active process that demands active engagement from each participant. This incorporates all five senses within the experience to heighten the opportunity for education while retaining information in the process.
